The Division Optics develops, manufactures and offers products made from synthetic or natural quartz glass for high technology applications in the photonics field. Synthetic and natural fused silica from Heraeus, made by production processes which are custom tailored to the optical application, fulfill the highest requirements of our customers.
Outstanding optical homogeneity for microlithopgraphy, excellent radiation resistance against ionizing radiation, especially large geometries or a long life time for space applications are some examples of those requirements.
For instance, Heraeus Quarzglas has supplied the German Carl Zeiss SMT AG, a world leading manufacturer of lithography optics for semiconductor production, with excellent fused silica blanks since 1989. These fused silica blanks are used in the optics of excimer laser steppers for the industrial production of microchips.
